How to distinguish TPU?

Recently, plastic products are more and more in our life. Some plastic is toxic while others is eco-friendly. As we know, TPU is one of eco-friendly plastic and which in different degrees has different property. In contrast, silica gel and synthetic rubber are not as eco-friendly as TPU, though they has similar property.

Here we have some ways to distinguish TPU, silica gel and synthetic rubber.

TPU:

1. Clear or colored.
2. Has yellow flame, a little explosion, few white smoke when fire. It can also have black smoke when it’s not fully fire sometimes.
3. A little bit fragrance.
4. Range of hardness is 60A-80D.

Silica gel:

1. Has bright white flame when fire.
2. A little bit smell and smoke when fire. The residue after fire is white powder.
3. Range of hardness is 10A-90A.

Synthetic rubber:

1. The firing flame is yellow.
2. Smelly when fire.
3. Range of harness is generally 50A-80A.

But how many types of safety harness do you know? Here we list several types as follows:


1. Aloft work safety harness:
Safety harness is an essential part of aloft work. In the past, many harnesses are made from nylon webbing, but now more and more safety harnesses are made from TPU / PVC coated webbing to enhance the safety index of the harness. According to different usage of safety harness, it is divided into four types:

(1) Rail work harness: connect a fixed corner and worker by the tied harness to help worker works with hands.
(2) Zoning restriction harness: use to limit workers’ range of activity to avoid falling off.
(3)Hanging harness: when a worker falls off accidently, a hanging harness can protect him from touching the ground.

2. According to the wearing ways, it can also be divided into full body harness and half body harness:

(1) Full body harness: it has several hanging points including chest, backside and waist. Generally, a full body harness can be disassembled to a half body harness and a chest harness. Full body harness is usually used in the occasion when the users need to head down like the rescue in a deep well.

(2)Half body harness: compared with full body harness, half body harness only covers the half body.

3. Bungee jumping harness

Actually, a bungee jumping harness is a personal fall protection system, which can stop falling effectively. A bungee jumping harness includes hanging points, hanging connectors, central connectors and full body harness. What should be concerned is that only the four parts are used together, a bungee harness could stop falling.

4. Seat belts

When in accident, a strong seat belt may save a life.

Does it matter if TPU webbing soaks in water?

Does it matter if TPU coated webbing soaks in water? Will the water permeate the inner nylon webbing? Dear, don’t worry about it.

When TPU doesn’t have strong degree of adhesion with inner nylon webbing, nylon webbing may be mouldy. But TPU coated webbing from Sunmolin is strong enough to against mouldy fungus.

TPU coated webbing is outer coated with Thermoplastic polyurethanes, which is resistant to hydrolysis. Seawater, fresh water or other corrosive liquid will not hurt TPU coated webbing.

What’s the Fire Rating of a TPU bus handle?

The Flame Class of TPU fire resistant webbing is similar to which of plastic. The Flame Class of plastic is divided into four grades (V0, V1, V2, HB), which is from V0 to HB.

V0: After twice the fire of TPU sample for 10s, the flame dies out in 30s and no inflamer falls off.

V1: After twice the fire of TPU sample for 10s, the flame dies out in 60s and no inflamer falls off.

V2: After twice the fire of TPU sample for 10s, the flame dies out in 60s and some inflamer falls off.

HB: It is the lowest grades of UL94 and CSA C22.2 No. 0.17 Standard. For the sample in the thickness of 3 to 13 millimeter, the burning velocity has to be less than 40mm/min; for the sample less than 3mm thick, the burning velocity has to be less than 70mm/min. Perhaps the flame dies out before the scratch line of 100mm.
